This week, Michel Kafando was sworn in as transitional president of Burkina Faso. Lieutenant Colonel Isaac Zida was named prime minister. Ernest Harsch is an adjunct Associate Professor at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs, and a research scholar at the university’s Institute of African Studies.
