A study from researchers at the UK’s University of Reading suggests the massive bombing of Europe, by allied forces, during World War 2 not only caused devastation on the ground but also had an impact on the ionosphere as well. The researchers say the upper atmosphere may have been heated by the bombing’s shockwaves, which increased the ionosphere’s loss of ionization.
