Science in a Minute 120318 Astronomers Observe First Moments of a Stellar Explosion

Thanks to NASA’s now retired Kepler spacecraft and a wide network of ground based telescopes, astronomers were able to observe the very first moments of a star exploding. The cosmic event is also called a Type Ia Supernova. Astronomers have been anxiously waiting for years to be able to witness the start of a supernova.
