2 Explosions in Southern Philippines Injure at Least 26

Officials in the southern Philippines say two bombs have ripped through the downtown area of the port city of Zamboanga, injuring at least 26 people.

Authorities blame terrorists for Wednesday's blasts.

The first explosion tore through a parked vehicle, while the second occurred a short time later in a hotel atop a restaurant. Power was knocked out and nearby buildings damaged.

Authorities initially said another bomb was found - but the Associated Press says officials later determined the item was a bag that had been left behind.

Zamboanga has been troubled by separatists and Islamic extremists in the past. It is the staging point for military operations against rebels and Islamic militants on Mindanao island.
