Baseball: Indians Shut Out Twins


The Cleveland Indians got another strong outing from pitcher C.C. Sabathia in their 11-0 shutout win over the Minnesota Twins Wednesday in major league baseball action.

Sabathia struck out eight batters and gave up six hits in his second consecutive complete game victory, while teammate Casey Blake homered twice against Cleveland's American League rivals.

Wednesday's other American League winners included the New York Yankees, the Los Angeles Angels, Tampa Bay, Chicago, Detroit and Seattle.

The National League's victors were Florida, Saint Louis, the New York Mets, Milwaukee, Washington, Arizona, Atlanta and the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Yankees beat the Boston Red Sox 8-6, their second consecutive win over their American League East rivals. The Los Angeles Angels eked out an 8-5 win over the Texas Rangers. Angels starting pitcher Jeff Weaver struck out five batters over six innings to win his first game in more than a month.

The Tampa Bay Devil Rays downed the Toronto Blue Jays 10-8, as Carl Crawford had drove in five runs on a career-high five hits, including a home run. The Chicago White Sox edged the Oakland Athletics 3-2. The Detroit Tigers beat the hapless Kansas City Royals 6-3, and the Seattle Mariners topped the Baltimore Orioles 7-4.

In the N.L., Joe Borchard and Miguel Cabrera each hit three-run homers as the Florida Marlins dominated the Chicago Cubs 9-3. Cubs pitcher Greg Maddux has lost four straight games after beginning the season at 5-0. The Saint Louis Cardinals routed the San Francisco Giants 10-4.

The New York Mets beat the Philadelphia Phillies 5-4. Milwaukee's Carlos Lee homered for the first time in 14 games to lead the Brewers to a 6-2 win over the Cincinnati Reds. The Washington Nationals scored four runs in the eighth inning to defeat the Houston Astros 5-1.

The Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 8-7. The Atlanta Braves downed the San Diego Padres 10-6, and the Los Angeles Dodgers trounced the Colorado Rockies 7-1.
