Tennis: Agassi Advances to US Open Semifinals

Seventh seeded Andre Agassi has come back from two sets down to beat fellow American James Blake and advance to the semifinals of the U.S. Open tennis tournament in New York.

The 35-year-old Agassi won 3-6, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3, 7-6 in a Wednesday night quarterfinal match that ran past midnight. Blake dominated the first two sets and served for the match at 5-3 in the final set, but Agassi held on and won the tiebreaker 8-6.

Agassi will next play fellow American Robby Ginepri who ousted eighth-seeded Guillermo Coria of Argentina, 4-6, 6-1, 7-5, 3-6, 7-5.

In women's quarterfinal action Wednesday, Elena Dementieva of Russia eliminated world number one and second seeded American Lindsay Davenport 6-1, 3-6, 7-6.

In the final four, Dementieva will face 30-year-old Mary Pierce, who reached the semifinals with an upset of third-seeded French compatriot Amelie Mauresmo, 6-4, 6-1.
