U.S. President Donald Trump tweeted Thursday that the remains of two U.S. soldiers had been identified from among the 55 boxes repatriated after his meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
The POW/MIA Accounting Agency said the remains were identified Sept. 13.
It said McDaniel was a medic with the 8th Cavalry Regiment Medical Company, supporting the regiment's 3rd Battalion. He was reported missing Nov. 2, 1950. McDaniel's military identification tag was among the boxes of remains.
Jones was a member of Company E, 2nd Battalion, 24th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division. He had been missing since Nov. 26, 1950.
Repatriation of remains was one of the deals struck during the Trump-Kim June summit in Singapore.
Of the 36,000 U.S. soldiers who died in the 1950-53 Korean War, 7,686 are listed as missing and 5,300 sets of remains are believed to be in North Korea.
