Hours after Hong Kong leader Leung Chun-ying announced his government is seeking negotiations with democracy protesters, tensions flared again at dawn in the semi-autonomous Chinese city. Hundreds of police officers moved onto the streets of Kowloon, removing barricades in an effort to end the occupation of Mongkok shopping district, the scene of violent confrontations between police, democracy protesters and pro-Beijing elements.
