The outrage over the killing of the African American man by a white police officer brought thousands of people out of lockdown and into the streets where demonstrations agains racial inequality and justice have continued. But health experts warn that the gatherings could lead to a new surge of coronavirus cases. While the mostly young people protesting may be less susceptible, they could potentially pass it on to more vulnerable family members.

The confirmed global COVID-19 death toll is now at least 400,000 as of Sunday. The U.S. leads the world with nearly 110 thousand confirmed virus-related deaths.
