For the first time ever, astronomers detected and pinpointed the source of a single fast radio burst. A fast radio burst is a very powerful and quick pulse of radio waves from across the universe. This cosmic phenomenon was detected in September 2018. Using several telescopes from around the world, the astronomers determined the source of the burst originated in a Milky Way galaxy some3.6 billion light-years away, in the Gru constellation.
