Singer-songwriter Jamala fled Ukraine with her family in the early hours of Russia’s full-scale invasion on Feb. 24, 2022. Jamala gained international fame after winning the 2016 Eurovision contest, where she performed her politically charged song "1944" about the year Russia deported Crimean Tatars to Central Asia, including her great-grandmother’s family. Now Jamala is on another journey of activism as she raises money and awareness for her homeland while in exile.
